VANILLA ICE CREAM WITH MEYER LEMON OLIVE OIL & FLAKE SEA SALT
I know, I know, at first blush you might wonder how this combination would be remotely appetizing…but trust us on this. Without fail guests proclaim this to be the Best. Dessert. Ever! Sometimes we don’t share the dessert components with guests beforehand – it is fun to hear them try and guess what is in it.
It is simple to prepare so it is all about the quality of the ingredients. You can make it for just 2 or a crowd. The recipe serves as many as you want.
Vanilla ice cream – don’t skimp on quality. We use Haagen-Dazs vanilla as it is good quality and widely available. Do not use vanilla bean as the stronger vanilla taste is not what you are looking for. (A derivation of this recipe is to use plain frozen yogurt, not vanilla, just plain or “natural”. It is a bit more tart but if you have access to nice fresh frozen yogurt we would suggest you give it a try as well.) It is best to use “smallish” bowls – they can always ask for seconds!
1T per serving of Grove Provisions Meyer Lemon Olive Oil. Alternatively, and we like this version just as much, use our Arbequina Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
Grove Provisions Flake Sea Salt. If you are out of our Flake Sea Salt, Maldon sea salt is a good substitute but under no circumstance should you use regular salt or even fine sea salt – it is the flake that makes the dish!
Scoop out the ice cream into as many bowls as you require. Drizzle the olive oil over the top of the ice cream evenly. Sprinkle a pinch of flake sea salt over the top of the ice cream & oil. That’s it.
